Un año más el Salón Creativa Barcelona abrirá sus puertas para celebrar su tercera edición, los días 21, 22 y 23 de noviembre, en la Fira de Barcelona. Creativa Barcelona revolucionó el sector hace diez años incorporando un nuevo concepto de Salón, al integrar en un mismo espacio tiendas, talleres y exposiciones.
La iniciación o el perfeccionamiento en el seno de los talleres, una galería del saber hacer con una gran cantidad de actividades manuales creativas como la venta de productos.
Creativa ofrece un entorno agradable en el cual sumergirse en las actividades favoritas. El salón se divide en distintas zonas temáticas en las que se podrá participar en demostraciones y disfrutar del placer de la creación. Creativa Barcelona ha demostrado que las manualidades y labores van más allá de su concepto tradicional, dando cabida a nuevas técnicas como el scrapbooking, el découpage o el patchwork.
Creativa multiplica su oferta de talleres para fomentar aún más la participación del público y poner a prueba la creatividad de los participantes. Esta edición del salón se celebrará junto con el Salón del Hobby, formando el mayor Salón de Ocio familiar de España.

Uno de los festivales más curiosos y extravagantes de la escena de Barcelona en materia musical vuelve por segunda vez a Barcelona. Se trata del Festival No-No-Logic que se celebrará del 20 al 22 de noviembre.
En este festival se podrá asistir a actuaciones y sesiones de DJ de música electrónica experimental de baile, electropop, naïf, electro-punk, pop desviante…
El No-No-Logic es un festival familiar. No sólo por su formato en sí, si no porque las personas que dan vida a estos pequeños sellos, trabajan de un modo especialmente cercano, como en familia. Por eso lo llamamos también Label Family Meeting.
Con esta iniciativa se pretende exponer una muestra del potencial creativo de artistas que inventan su propio lenguaje de expresión, al margen de las fórmulas y parámetros comerciales.
La edición de este año se celebrará en varios emplazamientos como, por ejemplo, el convent de Sant Agustí y club Fellini.

Las Terceras Jornadas Internacionales de Prensa Gratuita, que tendran lugar el 19, 20 y 21 de noviembre, llegan este año a su tercera edición. Estas Jornadas son un referente internacional y aquí se encuentran algunos de los mejores especialistas del sector.
El programa es ambicioso: ponencias y mesas redondas que giran entorno a tres bloques temáticos (véase programa).
Además en esta convocatoria se dedicará especial atención al debate de internet y los nuevos formatos como aliados de la prensa gratuita.
Las Jornadas de Barcelona serán un punto de encuentro para compartir experiencias y conocimientos.
Las Terceras Jornadas de la Prensa Gratuita están organizadas por la Asociación Catalana de la Prensa Gratuita (ACPG), entidad que cuenta con más de cien cabeceras que suman conjuntamente 3,5 millones de ejemplares de tirada y más de veinte diarios digitales .

En 1966 nació el primer festival de jazz español, inaugurado con un concierto del pianista Dave Brubeck. El festival, que sobrevivió a los tiempos hostiles de la dictadura franquista, dejó de latir durante tres años, entre 1977 y 1980, curiosamente en los primeros años de democracia. El Voll-Damm Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona alcanza este año su cuadragésima edición con un cartel de lujo que lo convierte, de nuevo, en referencia obligada entre los festivales europeos de otoño. Muchos los platos fuertes de un festival en el que podrán disfrutarse más de medio centenar de conciertos. Ciclos especiales, conciertos únicos, la atención a la creación catalana, el ya clásico concierto familiar y conferencias de los críticos y escritores jazzísticos más importantes venidos especialmente desde Nueva York forman parte también de una programación que celebra tanto el presente esplendoroso del festival, garantizado por una audiencia apasionada y entendida como hay pocas. The 47th international boat show in Barcelona will be held this year from the 8th to the 16th of November, the Grand Via and Port Vell will donate 101.000 square meters to the exhibition, where approximately 600 companies, 180,000 visitors, boat-builders, electronics companies, inflatables, engines, charter companies, accessories and 2000 between sailboats and motorboats  are expected, making Salon Nautico Internacional de Barcelona one of the biggest, greatest boat shows in the World.
The Fair includes many activities, like lessons for weather  forecasting for sailors, simulators on yachting or deep sea fishing! The fair is divided in themed zones, like “Espai del Mar” where you can find all the activities related to the marine environment, or “Fun Beach” that has canoes, kayaks and dinghies for  children. You can also check out lots of exhibits, like naval model-making, or paintings from Oliver Kornblum that capture the beauty of nature and the aesthetics of boats and regattas
So If you’re in Barcelona and you’re a bit of a sea dog, this is a fair you don’t want to miss!

As tradition has it, this year from the 29th of November to the 23rd of December the Fira de Santa Llucia will flood the area around the Barcelona Cathedral with market stands selling seasonal goods, exhibitions, shows, nativity scenes and musical parades.
Another traditional event in the Fira de Santa Llucia is the giant Caga tiò or Tiò de Nadal (the Catalonian Christmas log), a very peculiar Catalonian tradition, that involves a log with a smiley face, sticks and candy.
Very similar to the Mexican piñata, the caga tiò (it’s translation is also very peculiar) is bought by many families during the festive season and kept throughout winter. Every day beginning on the 8th of December children stuff it with candy, sweets and presents giving it something to “eat” and keep it warm with a blanket at night, until the fearful Christmas morning where it is put in the fireplace and beaten with sticks by the children, it  then releases the treasure of  sweets, nuts, dried figs and tùrron it contains. This traditional Christmas moment, accompanied by traditional Catalonian “pooping log” songs, ends when the exhausted log drops a salt herring, to indicate it is finally empty. Strange but true.

In Catalonia and in Barcelona above all, public transport is gaining over the private cars.
According to a survey on workday mobility involving 12.500 people in the metropolitan region, almost 43% of people said they prefer non-motorised transport to move every day, like bikes, or go on foot, while 20% choose public transport, especially rail.
In Barcelona city the use of public transport is double that of private cars. This is due to the increase of public urban means of transport, i.e. the Metro runs throughout Saturday night, trains are more frequent, plus the start of the tram system is really efficient. Furthermore the public cycle hire scheme Bicing has actually been successful.

From October 14th  through January 5th 2009, at the Fundaciò Caixa Catalunya 250 works by Aleksander Rodchenko are on show: The Construction of The Future. He’s one of the most important Russian artists of the 20th century, the pioneer of constructivism, the last avant-garde trend. A new way of viewing art, emphasizing construction over composition.
Indeed, he was influenced by Malevich and Tatlin and their culture of materials.
The exhibition covers every facet of Rodchenko, from his first experiments to his posters and photographs, to  the illustrations for the press, his works in the field of publicity which led him to produce a large number of advertisements, the illustrated books and his designs for the stage.

There’s a new space at Barcelona Town Hall. It’s the Sala Ciutat, a direct communication channel between Barcelona City Council and the citizens. Situated at the side of the Town Hall’s gothic façade, it offers citizens the chance to see firsthand what the city council is doing. Exhibitions, leisure and cultural activities for everyone. The opening of the new space last October 20th, has been the showcase of an exhibition entitled Les Barcelonas de Barcelona. Mirades sobre la ciutat. (The Barcelonas of Barcelona. Views of the city). On show many different views of the city made by photographers, artists, writers, directors and citizens.
